Snow Tubing Fun and Winter Views in Beech Mountain and Blowing Rock

Winter had just set in, and we were ready for a family escape to the mountains. With Beech Mountain and Blowing Rock on our itinerary, anticipation was high for snow, scenic views, and small-town charm. Bundled up in layers against the cold, we hit the road from Ballantyne, excited for two days of outdoor fun, snowy adventures, and cozy winter exploration.

Our Itinerary

Day 1 - Sunday (December 21, 2025) - Drive to Beech Mountain and Snow Tubing

We started our trip with a drive from Ballantyne to Beech Mountain and reached around 2 pm, right on time for our pre-booked snow tubing slot. Buying tickets online earlier really helped because parking was already almost full when we arrived. The temperature was freezing, so three layers of winter clothing were absolutely necessary. Luckily the parking area was very close to the snow tubing zone, which made things easier in the cold. We used our online tickets at the kiosk to get the access cards and headed straight in. We spent about an hour there doing multiple rounds of snow tubing. It felt a bit scary at first but quickly turned into a lot of fun and kept everyone excited. After that we walked over to the ski area, took plenty of family photos, and spent some time just playing in the snow.

By evening we reached our hotel, relaxed for a bit, and then went out for a calm walk around the Boone downtown area, a nice way to end the first day.

Day 2 - Monday (December 22, 2025) - Blowing Rock and Drive Back Home

We started the day with a visit to The Blowing Rock, a classic mountain attraction perched high above a gorge with sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Grandfather Mountain even in winter. The place is known as one of North Carolina’s oldest travel attractions and features panoramic overlooks, a short easy scenic walk and an observation area with great photo spots.

Parking was very close to the trail entry, so we didn’t have to walk far in the cold. We paid for our tickets right at the counter, which was quick and simple. The paths we chose were easy, perfect for all of us, and led us right to the best viewpoints without much effort. The mountain views were excellent even in the winter season and made for plenty of photos and memories.

After about an hour soaking up the scenery we headed into Blowing Rock’s Main Street. This downtown area has a charming, walkable feel with lots of shops and little stores. We picked up a few souvenirs and took a calm walk along the picturesque streets. The kids had fun playing around the town center area, and we all enjoyed the relaxed vibe before heading home.

After leaving Blowing Rock we drove for about 30 minutes and stopped for lunch, which was a nice break on the way back.

As we headed home, we carried with us the joy of snowy adventures, stunning mountain views, and the simple charm of small-town streets. The thrill of snow tubing, the laughter during family photos in the snow, and the calm strolls through Blowing Rock made this getaway truly memorable. Winter may have been cold, but the experiences and memories we made together kept us warm long after the trip ended.
